CM Yogi wants an investigation after a Muslim man was killed while celebrating the BJP's victory in Uttar Pradesh.
Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has ordered an investigation into the death of a Muslim man in Kushinagar for allegedly supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party. The state has also promised a Rs 2 lakh compensation to the man's family.
According to authorities, Babar Ali, a 25-year-old Muslim man, died on Sunday after reportedly being beaten up by his neighbours in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district for engaging in the BJP's election campaign and celebrating the party's success in the recently-concluded state elections.
He was beaten on March 20 in Kathargarhi and died as a result of his injuries while being treated at a hospital in Lucknow. When his corpse was returned to his village on Sunday, his family refused to conduct the final rites and sought the arrest of the murderers, according to reports.
According to Babur's relatives, their neighbours were upset because Babur used to support the BJP. According to his family, after the results of the UP Assembly elections, in which the BJP won by a landslide, were announced on March 10, Babur distributed sweets around the neighbourhood. The family said that his neighbours had frequently cautioned him not to vote for the BJP.
CM Yogi Adityanath has now ordered an investigation into the tragedy, expressing his anguish over it.
