Tragic Attack in Western Niger: 20 Soldiers and 1 Civilian Killed by Jihadist Group near Tassia

On Wednesday June 2024, in a tragic incident in western Niger, a jihadist armed terror group attacked security forces near the village of Tassia. 

The assault resulted in the loss of 20 soldiers and one civilian, with nine others injured. The defence ministry has declared three days of national mourning, emphasizing the security forces' unwavering determination to continue their fight for sovereignty.

Tassia lies in the Tillaberi region, bordering Mali and Burkina Faso, where Al-Qaeda and Islamic State-linked rebels have waged a bloody insurgency for nearly a decade.
