Muslim militants in eastern Uganda have chopped off the arm of a 42-year-old man who left Islam last month, the Morning Star reported.

Musa John Kasada, who converted to Christianity at a public event on June 17, was ambushed and attacked by Muslim militants in Moumo village in Luka district on July 26 while he was trying to flee to a safe place with his family, his wife Asiya Niigaga said. The couple has six children.

Kasada and his family attended Christian worship for three weeks after they left Islam. Following this, a priest of the Christian Church, Musa Kasada, received a threatening message informing him that he and his family were participating in the Christian worship and that the church was in danger if it did not end.

Following the threat, the family was trying to move to a safer place when Muslims in the area found their whereabouts and attacked them on July 26 when the family was preparing to leave.

"Did you think we wouldn't catch you? We've been tracking you up to here, and today is the last day you're alive. Allah has given you into our hands," she said, adding that they started beating her husband. She also added that when she started chopping off her husband's hand, they forced her to sing Christian songs.

She said one of the assailants hit her husband on the back with a large stick, while the others continued the attack when a man named Kasimu Magulu took out a long Somali sword and cut off Kasada's hand. Asya said the miscreants disappeared in a nearby plantation after a truck carrying sugarcane workers arrived during the violence.

The attack is the latest example of the growing persecution of Christians in Uganda. Last month, United Christian Online reported the killing of a Christian by Islamic extremists in Uganda, which was shaken by the conversion of eight people following the Islam-Christian debate.
