Massive gold haul in Karipur; Police and customs seize more than 5 kg of gold

MALAPPURAM: The police and customs seized more than five kg of gold on their own in Karipur. The police seized 1.011 kg of mixed gold from Abdul Majeed (23), a native of Nadavayal in Wayanad. He tried to smuggle the gold mixture in the form of four capsules in the anus. The seized gold is valued at Rs 54 lakh in the domestic market. 

This is the 81st gold smuggling case seized by the police at the Karipur airport in the last few months.

The customs have thwarted three cases - three gold smuggling attempts. Ismail, a native of Kallachi in Kozhikode, is one of the accused arrested during the customs raid. He had come from Dubai and tried to smuggle 765 grams of gold in mixed form by hiding it in three capsules inside his bag.

Mashook, a native of Kasargod, tried to smuggle the gold in a different way. The seized gold mixture weighs 1922 grams. In the third case, a gold mixture weighing 1822 grams was found dumped in packets and dumped in the washroom.
