Karipur: A gang that illegally smuggles gold through Kozhikode International Airport under the guise of Umrah pilgrimage is becoming active.  A team of DRI and Air Customs Intelligence officials seized five kilo of gold from four persons who had returned from the Umrah pilgrimage this morning.

They had returned from Saudi Arabia on an IndiGo flight after the Umrah pilgrimage and tried to smuggle 3,455 grams of gold mixture hidden in 13 campus seals inside their bodies.  The gold was seized from a person who had returned from the Umrah pilgrimage the other day.

Four capsules weighing 1064 grams from Kalalpattil Shuhaib (24), a native of Melmuri, Orakam, Malappuram; four capsules weighing 1059 grams from Andikadan Yunus Ali (34), a native of Meppadi, Wayanad; and three capsules weighing 851 grams from Abdul Qadri (22), a native of Kasaragod Muliatukkam, Malappuram. Two capsules weighing 481 grams were seized by DRI officials and customs officials when they tried to smuggle them inside the body of Vellamarthodi Muhammad Suhaili (24), a native of Arimbra.
