Hijab ban: 5 Muslim women in Karnataka seek TC from university college
Five Muslim female students at the city's university college in Hampankatta have asked the college administration to grant transfer certificates so that they can join other institutions.
The institution had banned the wearing of hijab in classes, which sparked outrage among Muslim students.
Mangalore University vice-chancellor P S Yadapadithaya recently announced that the varsity will make special arrangements for Muslim girls to attend other colleges if they refuse to comply with the High Court's order requiring students to adhere to the dress code prescribed by respective institutions.
Anasuya Rai, the college's principal, stated that the five students came her with a request for TC so that they could attend other universities that accepted hijab.
Because the letters were discovered to be incomplete, the students were requested to create a new letter with modifications.
Rai stated that the girls had yet to return with the fresh letters.
As part of the review process, all undergraduate classes have been moved online.
Except for a few students, all 44 Muslim girls enrolled in UG courses are attending lessons, according to the administration.
