On Monday, January 1, 2024, Islamist militant group Boko Haram terrorists disguised in military uniforms attacked two communities in the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria.

The assailants killed 12 people, kidnapped one woman, and looted food and cattle. The gunmen, who came on motorcycles and Hilux vans, opened fire on mourners returning from Gatamarwa and later raided Tsiha village, where they burnt houses and looted foodstuffs.

This was the second attack on Chibok in two weeks, after rebels killed two people and burned houses on December 20, 2023.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents by the Islamist militant group, which has been waging a decade-long insurgency in the region.
