According to Hebrew-language media sources, 43 people who purportedly sympathise with the Islamic State have been detained in the aftermath of two deadly assaults carried out by men linked with the terrorist organisation.

According to sources, 36 of them are from northern Israel.

Last Tuesday, four people were slain at a shopping mall in Beersheba by an Arab Israeli man from the southern town of Hura, who had previously been imprisoned for seeking to join the Islamic State.

On Sunday, two Umm al-Fahm cousins, one of whom had previously been imprisoned for attempting to join the Islamic State, assassinated two police officers at a bus stop in Hadera.

Although the jihadist organisation has claimed credit for both assaults, it does not appear that the terrorists were directed to carry them out.

According to police authorities, the wave of arrests targeting Islamic State supporters is anticipated to continue in the coming days.
