The police in Karipur arrested a woman for smuggling a gold mixture hidden inside her undergarments. Shahala (19), a native of Kasargod, was arrested with 1884 grams of gold mixture outside the airport.

Shahala arrived at the Karipur airport from Dubai.  The woman tried to smuggle 1,884 grams of gold in a mixed form and put it in three packets and hid it inside her clothes. The seized gold is valued at Rs 1 crore in the domestic market.

The woman landed at calicut airport on An Air India Express flight (IX 346) which arrived from Dubai at 10.20 pm on Sunday. The woman, who came out of the airport at 11 am after a customs inspection, was taken into custody by the police on the basis of a tip-off received by Malappuram district police chief S Sujith Das IPS.

The woman, who was taken into custody, was questioned continuously by the police for hours, but she resisted all of them without giving up her self-confidence. The woman refused to admit that she was a gold carrier or that she had the gold.

They then opened their luggage boxes and after examining them in detail, the gold could not be found. Later, during an examination of the woman's body, three packets were found concealed in a skillfully stitched undergarment.   The woman is being questioned in detail. Efforts are on to trace those behind the gold smuggling.

The seized gold will be submitted to the court and a detailed report will be submitted to the customs for further investigation. This is the 87th gold smuggling case to be seized by the police outside the Calicut airport.
